Crews restore power to 29,000 after early morning storms
January 11, 2020
Full restoration expected Monday at midnight
(January 11, 2020—5 p.m.) – More than 28,000 customers in Memphis and Shelby County have been restored after high winds and lightning moved through early Saturday morning causing 38,000 to lose power.
Damage is widespread across the county; downed trees and poles – including numerous damaged utility poles that need to be replaced on President’s Island alone – will complicate restoration as debris has to be removed before repairs can begin. Currently, approximately 9,000 are without power.
MLGW will work quickly, safely, and around the clock until all customers are restored. There are 30 tree trimming crews working to clear areas; 21 troubleshooters are assessing damage and making repairs. Thirteen outside crews are assisting MLGW.
Customers are urged to make MLGW aware of their outage by calling 544-6500. As crews work to make the biggest impact by restoring major circuits, smaller, more localized outages may go undetected. Reporting outages ensures the utility can make repairs as soon as possible.
Once an outage has been reported, customers can receive updates by calling the outage hotline (544-6500), contacting the Customer Care Center (528-6549) and by using the MLGW app. The outage map can be viewed online and with the MLGW app. MLGW will also provide updates via Facebook (@MLGW1) and Twitter (@mlgw).
All media requests should be sent to media@mlgw.org.
