New Meter Reader uniforms unveiled:
Emphasis on safety and recognition
November 28, 2007
Beginning this week, Memphis Light, Gas and Water Meter Readers will sport new bright yellow shirts and jackets. The switch from the old uniforms was mainly based on safety and customer awareness.
The new shirts and jackets are American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approved high visibility yellow with reflective stripes. The MLGW logo is prominent on both the front and back of the uniforms. The previous light blue uniform was a common color that many people wear. With the new high visible yellow, the Meter Readers will now be easily noticeable while reading water meters in heavy traffic areas.
MLGW has always made safety a high priority, both for its employees and for its customers, said Chris Bieber, Vice President of Customer Care at MLGW. With these new uniforms, customers will be able to identify Meter Readers easier when they see them walking in backyards or throughout neighborhoods.
As a reminder, MLGW Meter Readers cannot accept payments and do not carry cash.

MLGW is the largest three-service public power utility in the nation, serving more than 420,000 customers in Memphis and Shelby County. A 2007 survey of large metropolitan areas showed that MLGW has the sixth lowest combined rates in the nation.
