Memphis Light, Gas and Water will host a live, virtual town hall meeting March 17 at 4:30 p.m. to discuss the Division’s tree trimming policy. The town hall will be available simultaneously on Zoom meetings and on the MLGW Facebook page.
Interference from tree limbs, branches, vines, and overgrown vegetation is the leading cause of electrical outages for MLGW customers. The utility’s line clearance program exists to prevent it. Crews may trim tree limbs if they are close enough to distribution lines to disrupt power. They may also need to remove a tree if the trunk is too near a pole line, or if it endangers the distribution line.
MLGW determines on-site the amount of clearance needed. Visit mlgw.com/treetrimming to review the line clearance policy. Customers can call 544-6549 to report a tree that may be interfering with power lines.
