MLGW Prepares for Potential Storms Friday Night
September 7, 2012

Following an unusually active week in terms of inclement weather, MLGW crews are once again preparing to respond to the possibility of more storm-related outages tonight and tomorrow.

The past week has been a busy one for MLGW crews, with five different storms causing wind-, tree- and lightning-related damages that affected a total of about 35,000 customers, and each event ranging between 4,500-11,100 outages at its high point. While each outage affected a relatively small percentage of MLGW’s customer base of 420,000, there were numerous reports of significant damage to small pockets of customers across Shelby County during this time.

“This has been an unusual week in terms of weather,” said MLGW President and CEO Jerry Collins Jr. “While restoration has been relatively quick in each case, our crews have been working hard in the field the past seven days, trimming trees, setting poles and replacing fallen power lines. Our call center and other areas have also worked additional hours in order to keep a line of communication with our customers. We’re prepared to respond again this weekend, if needed.”

MLGW has crews and other employees on standby again this weekend. Incidentally, September is National Preparedness Month.
