Approximately 4,600 remain without power
 
(June 25, 2018- 3:30 p.m.) More than 30,000 customers have been restored since storms rolled through Memphis and Shelby County and knocked-out power to 35,000 MLGW customers this weekend. Currently, about 4,600 customers are without service.

The City of Memphis has opened a cooling center to help residents without power in the hard-hit Whitehaven area at the Memphis Recreation Services Building, 4376 Horn Lake. The center will remain open until further notice. MATA will provide transportation. Call the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) at 636-2525 for a ride.

MLGW will also distribute water at their five community offices to provide some relief to residents without power:

• Main Office – 245 S. Main Street
   
• North Community Office – 2424 Summer Avenue
   
• South Community Office – 2935 Lamar Avenue
   
• Whitehaven Community Office – 1111 East Shelby Drive
   
• Millington Community Office – 5131 Navy Road

Millington is open until 4:30 p.m.; all other locations are open until 5 p.m. 


There is still extensive damage with many poles and wires needing replacement. In addition to Whitehaven, Hickory Hill, Germantown, Collierville and South Memphis also sustained heavy damage.

Forty-five crews continue restoration efforts today. Twenty-five of those crews are from Indiana, Kentucky, Nashville, Southern Illinois, Virginia and West Virginia. MLGW projects restoration efforts will be completed by Wednesday, June 27. The utility will continue frequent updates as repairs progress. 

MLGW reminds customers to consider any downed wire to be dangerous and to not touch.
