June 24, 2018

Extensive damage to electric system; Almost half restored

(June 23, 2018- 5 p.m.) MLGW crews continue restoration efforts after storms moved through Shelby County Saturday morning. This morning’s storm caused extensive damage to our electric system. Consequently, almost 35,000 customers lost power.

Approximately 18,000 customers remain without power. MLGW crews are working around the clock to restore power.

Based on current assessments, MLGW anticipates that the majority of our customers will be on within 24 to 48 hours. MLGW expects to complete full restoration efforts by Wednesday, June 27 but will provide updates as the restoration efforts continue.

Twenty-two out-of-town crews will be assisting with restoration efforts. There is extensive damage with many poles and wires needing replacement. Crews are reporting heavy damage in Whitehaven, Hickory Hill, Germantown, Collierville, and South Memphis.

MLGW reminds customers to consider any downed wire to be dangerous and to not touch.
