November 15, 2012
The 1st annual MLGW Race to CARE 5K Run/Walk will take place Saturday, Nov. 17 on the Chickasaw Trail at Shelby Farms Park. Registration starts at 7:45 a.m.; the race begins at 9 a.m.
Race registration is $20. Online registration can be completed at racetocare.racesonline.com. All race participants will receive a complimentary energy conservation kit from the Tennessee Valley Authority valued at $50. Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division is sponsoring the race in partnership with the Metropolitan Inter-faith Association (MIFA). In addition to TVA, Smoothie King, ServiceMaster Clean and Start-to-Finish Event Management are also sponsors.
The goal is to raise funds for pay for minor energy efficiency improvement projects conducted through Project CARE. Project CARE is designed to help MLGW customers reduce their energy consumption by providing resources to make minor home repairs (i.e. broken windows, water leaks, gas leaks). In addition to weatherization repairs, customers will attend energy education workshops.
All donations to MIFA for the Race to CARE are tax deductible.
MLGW is the largest three-service public power utility in the nation, serving more than 421,000 customers in Memphis and Shelby County.
