Gas Odor in the Air near East Brooks Road and South Third Street
October 19, 2020
Routine work will occur on Tuesday, October 20, 2020

MLGW crews will perform maintenance work that will require natural gas to be vented into the atmosphere in the area of East Brooks Road and South Third Street. Gas will be vented into the air for one hour. This routine work will occur on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 around 7 a.m.

The public in the surrounding areas may smell mercaptan in the air. This is the chemical odorant that MLGW adds to the natural gas to give it the rotten egg/sulfur smell so it can be easily detected.

Depending on the wind/weather conditions, residents and businesses in various areas could smell this strong, sulfuric odor.

MLGW is the largest three-service public power utility in the nation, serving more than 429,000 customers in Memphis and Shelby County.
