The Memphis Light, Gas and Water Student Poster Contest ends in about two weeks. The utility’s annual Student Poster Contest for Shelby County school children in grades K-12 focuses on natural gas safety, a particularly important subject especially during the winter months. The deadline for entries is December 9 at 4 p.m.
Art entries will be judged on their ability to clearly and creatively communicate the theme, “Natural Gas Safety: Captain Mercaptan – Smell Gas? Leave Fast!” Artwork created on computer is eligible this year along with traditional art on paper or other mediums. Entries will be judged in four categories: Elementary school (grades K-2 and 3-5), middle school (grades 6-8) and high school (grades 9-12). Each category winner and each winner’s teacher will receive awards worth $125, along with additional recognition. All children in grades K-12, attending ANY Shelby County school or home schooling, are eligible.
