MLGW’s Women in Non-Traditional Jobs Fair to showcase careers in the utility industry
November 5, 2013

Memphis Light, Gas and Water’s second annual Women in Non-Traditional Jobs Awareness Fair will be held Wednesday, Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the MLGW Joyce M. Blackmon Training Center, 4949 Raleigh-LaGrange Rd.

MLGW female employees from different areas of the company will be present to share with attendees the skills used on their job and to discuss careers in the utility industry that may seem non-traditional for women. Different Mid-South organizations will also be present to give attendees information on their services for women.

“Women work in every field of our company,” said Von Goodloe, vice president of Human Resources. “It is very important to us at MLGW to show young women different fields in the utility industry whether it is engineering, technical, maintenance or mechanical. Our role is to demonstrate the tools, education and skills necessary for those jobs and to enhance awareness about different careers.”

Students from MLGW’s adopted school, Carver High School, will attend the career fair and all interested members of the community are invited to discover the opportunities for women in non-traditional jobs. Different Mid-South organizations will also be present to give attendees information on their services for women.

MLGW hosts the annual event and participates in programs such as University of Memphis’ Girls Experiencing Engineering to help make young women aware of various careers in science, engineering and the utility industry.

MLGW is the largest three-service public power utility in the nation, serving more than 429,000 customers in Memphis and Shelby County.
