2007/2008 Annual Moratorium now underway: payment plans must remain current
December 17, 2007

MLGW's Annual Moratorium is now underway. It runs through Monday, January 14, 2008. During this time, MLGW will not disconnect service to customers due to non-payment unless there is an issue of customer safety or theft. Though MLGW does not cut off customers during this period, those with existing payment arrangements should avoid defaulting on those plans or else they will not qualify for the Annual Moratorium. Customers are reminded that charges continue to accrue during the payment moratorium.

The Annual Holiday Moratorium was initiated by the Memphis City Council. The policy states that MLGW will discontinue the moratorium for individual customers if they default on a pre-made payment arrangement.

"In an effort to keep customers' payments current, MLGW will enforce the policy very stringently this season," said MLGW President and CEO Jerry Collins. "We care for our customers and want to work with them in every way we can. However, we must also balance the business needs of the utility with our flexibility."

Customers who need additional help during the Annual Holiday Moratorium are urged to call MLGW's Customer Care Center at 544-MLGW.
