Late Wednesday afternoon, Memphis Light, Gas and Water closed its Whitehaven Community Office located at 1111 Shelby Drive around 4 p.m. after customers and employees smelled signs of a possible gas leak.
Because of any inconvenience the building shutdown caused, MLGW will not disconnect utility services for any customers on Thursday, March 20.
"The safety of our customers and employees is our top priority and in any possible emergency situation, MLGW will take the proper precautionary action to protect those individuals," said MLGW President and CEO Jerry Collins Jr.
The Whitehaven office will resume regular business hours on Thursday.
