MLGW Encourages Customers to Prepare for Spring and Summer Months
March 21, 2022

Spring has sprung with temperatures expected to hit the high 80s in the first week of the season and 1-2 inches of rain expected today. Just like the cold, warmer weather comes with joys and challenges, but it does not have to be costly.

Summer Tips:

As the thermostat crawls towards the high end MLGW recommends customers take some of the following precautions:

(a) Have a professional, reputable contractor clean and inspect your air conditioner. This should be done every year, whether you have window or central units.

(b) Set the thermostat at 78° degrees or higher for the most energy efficient operation. Each degree below this setting adds 6% to your cooling costs.

(c) Shade windows on the sunny side of your home. Keep drapes closed or add room-darkening shades to block out the heat from the sun.

Life Support Customers: Customers dependent on physician-certified, non-portable life-sustaining equipment can call MLGW Customer Care at 901-544-6549 to be placed on a registry.

“We know how important it is that these customers receive uninterrupted power, and we make a special effort in their case,” Gale Jones-Carson, VP of Community and External Affairs said. “However, we cannot help them if we do not know. Customers can call at any time during the year during normal business hours to be added to the registry.”

In the event of a large storm or other disaster out of MLGW’s control, these customers, like others, may be affected by an unplanned outage, and they should make arrangements in advance to accommodate these special needs.

MLGW is the largest three-service public power utility in the nation, serving more than 437,000 customers in Memphis and Shelby County.
