MLGW delays cutoffs in extreme temperatures
December 12, 2010
As Memphians are experiencing below normal temperatures, MLGW wants to remind customers that if the WIND CHILL is predicted to be at or below 32 degree Fahrenheit during a 24-hour period, Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division does NOT execute cutoffs.

MLGW wants to remind customers of the importance of wise energy usage during the coldest winter periods. Setting your thermostat no higher than 68, dressing in layers, using towels to block air that may be leaking in under doors and opening blinds and curtains on sunny days are just a few ways that customers can make the most of their energy usage. These tips, along with others, can be found at www.mlgw.com/winter.

Cutoffs are processed once the temperature returns to normal. A similar approach is taken for excessive heat during the summer months.

MLGW is the largest three-service public power utility in the nation, serving more than 420,000 customers in Memphis and Shelby County.
