Over 20,000 customers affected by Thursday’s storm
(February 12, 2021, 9:30 a.m.) – Around 3,500 Memphis Light, Gas and Water customers are without power following Thursday’s ice storm and resulting damage. Over two hundred separate outages will be addressed today as eleven contract crews from middle and east Tennessee join MLGW’s 47 crews and 32 tree trimming crews. Ninety-five percent restoration for customers who have been off since yesterday is expected by midnight tonight.
A word on the outage map:
The outages shown on the outage map are a snapshot at any given time. They do not accurately reflect the total number of customers that have been affected by outages. During an ice storm, as opposed to a windstorm, branches continue falling all day resulting in new outages. Therefore, the overall number of outages fluctuates. In fact, we are restoring customers at the same time others are losing power. That is why the numbers may not seem to change significantly. Since Thursday, we have restored over 17,000 customers. Crews will continue to work as quickly and as safely as possible until all customers are restored.
