MLGW Employee Named Youth Engineer of the Year

Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division employee Carol Dodge Whelchel was recently named the 2015 Youth Engineer of the Year by the Memphis Chapter of the Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers.

Whelchel works in Natural Gas Distribution and Transmission Design at MLGW; she joined 4 1/2 years ago. She designs and manages gas main relocation and replacement projects for the distribution and transmission systems. Whelchel is a 2008 civil engineering graduate of Christian Brothers University.

She is currently involved with the MLGW Junior Engineer / Professional Engineer Program (JEPE). JEPE is a program that mentors newly hired engineers and encourages professional developmental for all engineers.

Whelchel was awarded at the Memphis Chapter’s Engineers Week Banquet on February 26.

MLGW is the largest three-service public power utility in the nation, serving more than 420,000 customers in Memphis and Shelby County.
