MLGW Customers May Notice Sulfuric Odor
December 12, 2018

Scheduled maintenance involves odorant called mercaptan

MLGW will be performing maintenance at its Seward Gate Station, 1303 Seward Road, Wednesday, Dec. 12. Work is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and is expected to last five hours.

MLGW customers in the area may smell mercaptan during scheduled maintenance. Mercaptan is the chemical odorant MLGW adds to natural gas to give it a rotten egg/sulfur smell so the gas can be easily detected.

Depending on wind and weather conditions, residents and businesses in the area south of George R. James Road and east of North Collierville Arlington Road may smell a strong, sulfuric odor Wednesday morning.

For more information, go to www.mlgw.com or call 544-6549.

MLGW is the largest three-service public power utility in the nation, serving more than 431,000 customers in Memphis and Shelby County.
