MLGW replacing gas mains in Midtown and Downtown neighborhoods
April 1, 2019
Memphis Light, Gas and Water is scheduled to start construction on four cast iron replacement projects in Midtown and Downtown starting Monday, April 1.
Neighborhoods affected are: Peabody from Kimbrough Pl. to Belvedere Blvd.; McLemore Ave. from Florida St. to Texas St.; Walker Ave. from Rayner St. to Lamar Ave.
The fourth area affected is Race St. from McLemore Ave. to Lucy Alley, Lucy Alley from Race St. to S. Orleans St., and Lucy Ave. from S. Orleans St. to Willie Mitchell Blvd.
MLGW gas crews are replacing cast iron mains with steel lines. As cast iron pipes age they are more likely to corrode and become prone to leaks. Replacing them with steel lines means improved safety and reliability for utility customers.
