Since its launch two weeks ago, more than 5,300 customers have logged on to MLGW's My Account dashboard to learn more about how they use energy in their home. The interactive energy evaluation tool at www.mlgw.com gives customers the ability to compare cost and usage to previous months, see how their energy usage compared to other homes their size and discover how much energy each appliance in their home uses. Other My Account features include energy saving tips and guides for buying energy efficient appliances and products.
"My Account provides a new level of understanding for our customers. It goes beyond just looking at how you used energy and delves into the reasons why your household's bill may have been higher than you wanted it to be," MLGW's Interim Chief Utility Officer Jerry Collins said. "Our combined rates are the sixth lowest in the nation, and our customers must partner with us to reduce usage and see lower bills. With My Account we've given our residential customers the tools they need to take control of their energy costs."
In the coming weeks, MLGW will begin providing optional online billing for customers as part of a series of web-based customer service enhancements planned for 2007. Customers who choose to receive their bill online will also be able to pay online using a checking or savings account for free. In preparation for this service, MLGW has begun printing a "My Account Access Code" on bills. Codes will be activated when online billing is launched.
MLGW is the largest three-service public power utility in the nation, serving more than 420,000 customers in Memphis and Shelby County. A 2007 survey of large metropolitan areas showed that MLGW has the sixth lowest combined rates in the nation.
