A Message from MLGW President and CEO Jerry Collins Jr.
June 8, 2011
During the last couple of months, our community has been ravaged by severe weather
occurrences. In keeping with our longstanding tradition to provide our customers with reliable utility services, MLGW has worked tirelessly through each of the recent severe weather events to restore power and ensure that safe conditions prevail in Memphis and Shelby County.
To say that our community has had its share of extraordinary weather events this spring is certainly no overstatement. The season began with a severe thunderstorm on April 4 that left 71,000 MLGW customers without power and ranked as the fifth most damaging to MLGW's electric system in recent history. Two nearly equally-powerful storms struck on April 19 and 26. In each case, because of the preparedness and commitment of MLGW’s 2,700 employees, we restored power to all customers within a few days.
