Natural Gas Refund FAQ
July 6, 2011
(July 6, 2011) — A recent adjustment to MLGW's Purchased Gas Adjustment (PGA) will result in credits that will be reflected on the August bills of MLGW's natural gas customers. The average credit will be about $38 per residential customer and will be reflected in customers' gas charges.

The amount of the credit adjustment for commercial customers will vary. The actual amount of these credits is based on each customer's actual gas usage between January 2008 and May 2011.

  • What is the Natural Gas Refund? Who will receive it?

The Natural Gas Refund is a one-time credit adjustment for all MLGW residential, commercial and industrial customers who were billed for natural gas during the January 2008 through May 2011 time period.

  • Why are customers receiving it?

The credit is the result of a natural gas transportation cost component that was omitted during the calculation of the Purchased Gas Adjustment (PGA). This omission caused the PGA to be slightly higher than necessary.

  • When will customers receive it?

Customers will see the credit appear on bills rendered between August 3, 2011 and August 31, 2011.

  • How will the refunds be distributed?

Refunds will appear in the form of a credit on the bills.

  • How much refund will customers receive?

Because natural gas usage varies from customer to customer, the amount of credit will vary. The amount of credit is based on the amount of gas consumed by customers as shown on their January 2008 through May 2011 utility bills.

  • How can customers find out more about the Natural Gas Refund?

Along with customers’ August bill will be a special insert regarding the adjustment and how the credit was calculated. In addition, the bill will show a detailed explanation of the amount of the credit for the individual customer.

  • What if someone no longer has an account with MLGW?

Inactive accounts with an appropriate forwarding address will receive special checks by mail.
