MLGW will perform routine maintenance involving mercaptan at the Tennessee Valley Authority facility on Plant Road on Monday, March 31.

This routine work will last for two hours starting at 7 a.m.

The public in the surrounding area may smell mercaptan in the air. Mercaptan is the chemical odorant that MLGW adds to natural gas to give it the rotten egg/sulfur smell so it can be easily detected.

Depending on the wind/weather conditions, residents and businesses in the vicinity could smell this strong, sulfuric odor during the morning.
