Board a bus to learn about energy conservation as MLGW presents Community Conservation Days
January 23, 2009
(January 23, 2009) - MATA busses will be in front of MLGW community offices today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to show MLGW customers how to save on their utility bill. The free seminar, the first of several Community Conservation Days the utility has scheduled for 2009 will educate customers about saving energy and lowering their utility bills. Customers can board a bus at the following locations: 245 South Main, 2935 Lamar Ave., 1111 East Shelby Dr. and 2424 Summer Ave.

Community Conservation Days are aimed at increasing customer awareness of energy conservation measures. Reducing energy consumption can save customers money on their utility bills and also helps them to reduce their "carbon footprint," which refers to an individual’s impact on greenhouse gas emissions.

Those attending one of two hour-long energy workshops aboard the bus will receive a special energy conservation kit after the workshops valued at more than $40. Energy saving brochures and information will also be available. MLGW employees can also answer questions regarding energy conservation at these events.

"Our first Community Conservation Day was so well received by the public that we thought it would be a good idea to do them on a monthly basis," said MLGW President and CEO Jerry Collins Jr. "With the economy currently in a downturn, it is becoming even more important for all of us to practice energy conservation in our homes. We want to encourage our customers to think about energy conservation."
