MLGW continues restoration efforts – 35,000 restored
April 2, 2023

(April 2, 2023 – 7 p.m.) Following Friday night’s storms, a total of 40,000 unique customers were affected by power outages. The peak number out any one time was 36,613. We have restored power to more than 35,000 customers, and about 4,800 remain without power. Ninety-eight percent restoration is estimated by Monday, April 3 at midnight.

While no tornadoes were confirmed in Shelby County, a very strong supercell impacted the Sea Isle and Yorkshire neighborhoods near the end of the storm on Friday night. That supercell caused broad ranging physical damage to MLGWs electric infrastructure. Damaging wind caused trees to fall, sheared transmission and distribution poles and downed lines along main streets and rear property lines in the Sea Isle and Yorkshire neighborhoods. This is where most of the remaining outages are concentrated and where our crews are focused on replacing damaged infrastructure. Fallen mature trees also unfortunately damaged a significant number of homes in the area. There are many tree trimming and MLGW crews working to clear debris and we suggest drivers avoid these areas if possible. We are prioritizing restoration of Sheffield, Oakhaven, and Getwell schools in hopes that school can continue Monday. Memphis Shelby County Schools remains in contact with MLGW to see if that is possible.

We appreciate our customers’ patience while storm repairs continue.
