The 4th Annual Memphis Light, Gas and Water United Way Basketball Tournament will be held on Penny Hardaway’s Fast Break Court in the Methodist University Gym, 1287 Linden Ave., on October 20 and 21.
The tourney runs from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on October 20 and 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on October 21. Admission is $1; children 12 and under are free.
All proceeds will go to the United Way of the Mid-South.
The basketball teams competing in the tournament are comprised of MLGW meter readers, MLGW overhead electric line employees, a team from Comcast, Penny Hardaway’s team (Memphis Express) that has won the tournament the last two years, and some players that play overseas. The tournament is being organized for the fourth year by MLGW’s Kevin Watkins, a Work Process Alignment employee who also serves on MLGW’s United Way Campaign Steering Committee.
Memphis Light, Gas and Water employees are consistently in the top six for per capita donations to United Way of the Mid-South. One hundred percent of all MLGW contributions come from employee donations. By working together, Division employees are always eager to give back to the communities they serve. In 2011, MLGW’s United Way campaign raised $635,162.
