Registration is underway for the 2012 Neighborhood Leaders Conference on Friday, August 3, 2012. The conference will be held at MLGW University, 4949 Raleigh LaGrange Road, and requires a $5 registration fee per person.
The theme for the 2012 Conference is “It’s Easy Being Green.” Guest speakers include MLGW President and CEO Jerry Collins Jr., who will discuss the utility’s Green Initiative Programs, as well as the Administrator for the Memphis and Shelby County Office of Sustainability, Paul Young.
Several workshops planned for the conference include:
- Save Energy, Save Money
- Organic Gardening
- Water-wise Landscaping
- Biking in Memphis
- Addressing Vacant Properties
- Basic Recycling
- Water Conservation and Preservation
- Caring for Trees
- Alternative Vehicles and Transportation Options
In addition, the conference is partnering with Soles4Souls, a Nashville-based charity that collects shoes and distributes them to people in need across the U.S. Attendees who would like to donate a new or gently used pair of shoes can waive the $5 registration fee. Soles4Souls has delivered over 17 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes since 2005.
