MLGW dedicates electric substation to former board member
January 23, 2007
Memphis Mayor Willie W. Herenton, MLGW President and CEO Joseph Lee, III and several current and past members of the Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division board of directors today dedicated the electric substation on Shady Grove Rd. near Yates in honor of former board member L.R. Jalenak at a ceremony at the Hall of Mayors at City Hall.
Jalenak served on the MLGW Board of Commissioners from 1993 until 2005. During his tenure, he served as both Chairman and Vice Chair of the MLGW Board.
Mr. Jalenak served this community soundly for many years on the MLGW board, and it is fitting that we dedicate one of our critical facilities to this man who was so critical to our success and growth for more than a decade, said MLGW President and CEO Joseph Lee, III. Much like the electricity our substations provide, Mr. Jalenak is a true pillar of our community.
Jalenak's leadership and involvement in many industry, civic and religious organizations has made him a pillar of community service to the City of Memphis and Shelby County. In addition to his years as President/CEO and Chairman of Cleo, Inc. he is an active member of the community. He has served on the Board of Directors and as the President of the Jewish Foundation of Memphis, and on the Board of Directors for the Memphis Arts Council. In addition, he was a founding Board Member of the Society of Entrepreneurs.
Jalenak received a BBA degree from Tulane University and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
MLGW is the largest three-service public power utility in the nation, serving more than 420,000 customers in Memphis and Shelby County with some of the lowest combined rates in the U.S.
