MLGW Responding to Outages after Early Morning Father’s Day Storms
June 18, 2023
(June 18, 2023, 10:30 a.m.) – Memphis Light, Gas and Water crews are hard at work restoring power to utility customers affected by early morning weather-related outages. Currently, there are about 27,000 customers without electricity. That is down from 44,671 total impacted.

Severe storms and winds in excessive of 65 MPH hit the Mid-South early Sunday morning. MLGW crews are currently working to assess damage. The storms damaged trees and utility poles, and rain caused some flash flooding. Nearly 700,000 people have been impacted by the same storm system that hit our area. Widespread outages have been reported across Midwestern and Southern states. This could present a challenge with obtainting outside resources to assist with our restoration efforts. We ask for customer’s patience as crews continue working quickly and safely to assess damage and restore power.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), storms are expected to redevelop around 4 p.m. today and there is a significant risk for widespread thunderstorms this evening.

MLGW asks customers to stay away from downed powerlines. They could still be energized and deadly. If you see a downed powerline call MLGW’s emergency hotline and report it: 528-4465. Warn others to stay away from any downed power lines.

MLGW customers can report power outages and check the status of their outage through My Account or by calling the automated outage number: 544-6500. Customers can also check the online outage map: mlgw.com/outagecenter.
