(July 4, 2023, 10 a.m.) – Memphis Light, Gas and Water crews have restored nearly all outages caused by a series of storms that hit the area on June 25 and July 2nd. MLGW expects to restore power to all customers impacted by the storms by the end of the day.
At this time there are less than 1,200 customers still impacted, down from 122,000 on June 25th, and 16,000 then 35,000 on July 2nd.
These storms rank as the sixth most destructive in MLGW history. Time-lapse video shows restoration progress from the past week: https://youtu.be/opuQl9DtTkg.

The National Weather Service predicts a chance of thunderstorms every day this week, and MLGW will be prepared to respond should those storms cause additional outages. The cycle of storm – restoration – repeat has slowed down the utility’s infrastructure improvements, but it has not stopped them. President and CEO Doug McGowen says, “It is going to get better, we will make our system more reliable and more resilient.”
MLGW business offices are closed today in observance of Independence Day; however, crews and other support staff are working.
