(July 19, 2023, 5 p.m.) – A severe thunderstorm rolled through Tuesday evening bringing significant lightning and wind gusts in excess of 60 mph. Since then, MLGW has restored 93,000 customers, leaving 48,000 customers out of power. There are 96 repair crews, 89 tree crews, 23 troubleshooters and 20 damage assessment teams identifying damage and repairing the system. They are supported by hundreds of logistics, administrative, safety and system operations personnel. Our priority this evening is to restore the 17 main circuits that remain out, each of which supports more than 1,000 customers. Full restoration is expected to take several days with some of the smaller outages lasting into the weekend.
With temperatures being dangerously high, safety should be a top priority for all. Customers should prepare for restoration to take multiple days.
