TVA issues emergency load curtailment program
December 23, 2022
The extreme cold temperatures and high demand across the TVA service territory have caused a critical power supply situation.
TVA has issued a Step 50 Curtailment which means that all local power companies are required to drop between 5 and 10 percent of their total electrical load. This is necessary to avoid major outages across the MLGW and other local power companies service areas.
To accomplish this, beginning at 11:30 a.m. today, MLGW will implement system wide "rolling blackouts".
This means that service to an area will be interrupted for 30 minutes. Customers may experience outages up to two times a day on average.
Critical facilities such as water pumping stations, sewage treatment plants, hospitals and airports are excluded from these blackouts.
Please do not call unless your outage lasts more than an hour.
MLGW will notify the public when Step 50 has been terminated.
We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.
