High Survey Score Maintained on State Inspection of Public Drinking Water
The Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division 2016 Water Quality Report is available online on MLGW’s website. Customers can view the 2016 Water Quality Report online at mlgw.com/waterquality. Customers can also request a paper copy of the report by calling 901-320-3950 or emailing corpcomm@mlgw.org. Specialists in MLGW’s Water Laboratory perform numerous tests throughout the year to monitor components of Memphis’ water.
All community water systems are required to prepare and distribute an annual water quality report. MLGW is proud to continue to provide excellent drinking water for the citizens of Memphis and Shelby County. In addition to the Water Quality Report, a Sanitary Survey is conducted bi-annually by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC).
MLGW received a score of 588 points out of a possible 599 points for a numerical score of 98 percent on a sanitary survey of its water system. This rating retains the MLGW water system in the State's "APPROVED" category.
The Sanitary Survey is an on-site evaluation/audit of the total Operations and Maintenance of a public water system by TDEC’s Division of Water Supply. The multi-week survey inspects every aspect of MLGW’s water system including the complete operations, maintenance and safety programs, records and documentation, water treatment and water quality testing, engineering, as well as the equipment, facilities and construction procedures.
MLGW attributes this high score to the Water Division’s employees’ hard work and dedication to upholding high quality standards to provide safe drinking water for our citizens.
