MLGW continues upgrading its natural gas system
 

MLGW gas crews may be in your neighborhood as we continue making system –as well as individual customer – improvements.

If you have received a postcard, crews are either replacing the existing gas pipes to improve the gas flow in your area or replacing the service connection to the gas pipe in the street. The upgrade means greater reliability and fewer gas leaks for customers.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation. Our crews will work as quickly and safely as possible to minimize any inconvenience to you and your family.

How we do it 1) Using an air hammer, a utility worker breaks out the street to reach a gas service tap. 2) A utility worker guides a directional drill underneath the street before a new pipe is installed. 3) A backhoe operator carefully digs around a new plastic pipe to prepare for a service transfer to the new gas main. 4) Workers clean a new six-inch pipe before installing a service tap. 5) A utility worker installs a residential service tap. 6) Workers insert a new plastic gas line through the old service line. None of the existing services lines are being removed. 7) Before a home’s service is restored, a gas fitter rebuilds or replaces a residential meter. 8) Not at home? A gas fitter leaves a message for a homeowner to call for a pilot relight. 9) Once the new service is turned on and the project is finished in an area, workers will return to repair the streets and yards.

What does that mean for you? We will be digging in the streets and some yards. It will be noisy at times. Please avoid parking on the street. We will cut off your gas for a few hours during the changeover, and we will let you know if you are home. Once it is finished, we will return and make repairs to streets and yards. MLGW adds a special chemical to give it that funky, rotten-egg smell. If the odor is strong, avoid: Striking matches or using a lighter Turning on electrical lights Using a telephone near the source of the smell You should: Leave the home or building immediately Use your cell phone away from the source of the smell.
